The Knightwood Curriculum

"Curriculum should help children make deeper and fuller understanding of their own experience." Lilian Katz

At Knightwood Primary School, we are 'always learning' and have crafted a high quality curriculum that is enriched and underpinned by our personal development curriculum and our values of kindness, curiosity and resilience.

We aim to instil a love of learning in every child by creating learning opportunities that are meaningful, relevant and that inspire. Through our broad and rich curriculum, we aim to enable every child to develop excellent knowledge and skills across a range of subjects, as well as supporting them to become active members of society with a secure sense of self-worth.

We have clear principles that inform our curriculum design and implementation:

- Inspiring Curiosity: Curiosity sparks a natural desire to explore and to discover, prompting children to ask questions, seek answers, and think critically about the world around them. It nurtures imagination and innovation developing essential problem-solving skills.

Empowering Global Citizens: We champion our children to not just be academically accomplished but also possess the knowledge and skills to engage with the world as informed and responsible citizens. Our curriculum is designed to foster global awareness, critical thinking, and a strong sense of social responsibility. We empower our students to contribute positively to their local and global communities.

- Knowledge and Skills: Children need both knowledge and skills and the Knightwood curriculum is planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before, and towards clearly defined end points.

- Enrichment: Enrichment opportunities go beyond the standard curriculum, providing our pupils with a range of experiences that enhance their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

- Character Development: Character development in the primary school curriculum lays the foundation for lifelong values and ethics. Our comprehensive personal development curriculum ensures the holistic growth as individuals.

The Knightwood Curriculum Principles:

Curiosity - the spark of exploration

Curiosity - the catalyst of engagement

Curiosity - the fuel of creativity
