September 2021 Admissions

September 2021 Year R Families

Unfortunately we are unable to proceed with our usual open mornings and school tours this year.

However, we are delighted to be able to provide you with information about our school which we hope will be a useful way of deciding if Knightwood is the place you would like to send your child.

All about Knightwood!

We have 3 resources below that should give you a really good flavour of our school.

1) The first video will introduce you to our school.

2) The 360 degree tour will allow you to virtually walk around our school using your mouse or the arrow keys (recommended) and see inside our classrooms! Eventually, we will be adding more video clips to this which will provide you with further information and short film clips to watch as you go so remember to return if you want to see what we have added

3) We have a montage of children children learning at Knightwood.

4) We have added some FAQ's for more information.

We hope you enjoy using these resources to help you make a great choice for your child. Good luck and enjoy!

We hope you enjoy the clips below

FAQ – Entry to Year R

What if we live out of catchment?

We find that we usually have some spaces that are offered to families who live out of our catchment. These places are offered in line with our admissions policy. For most people, this means the closer you live to our school, the better the chance that you will get a place.

What are the chances of getting a place if we live in the catchment?

The chances of getting a place for your child if you live in catchment are very high. Although all catchment children have secured a place in the last 10 years or so, there can be no guarantees as we don’t know from one year to the next how many children there are in the catchment.

How many adults work in the early year’s area?

Your child will have a class teacher and a full time early year’s assistant in their class. There are two class in early years with no 30 places in each.

What about before and after school care?

We have an early birds club that runs from 7.45am which is run by members of our school staff. Kidsclub operate after school. This club runs entirely for Knightwood children, but is managed separately from our school. It is VERY popular and they operate a waiting list. Parents frequently have to wait for a place to become available.

Does my child have a choice of meals at lunchtime?

When they arrive at school each morning your child will be asked to select from a meal option of either a meat or vegetarian. The menu choice will be sent home for you so you can discuss their choice with them before they come in to school. Our school kitchen are able to cater for a wide range of dietary requirements. All meals for children in KS1 and early years are provided free of charge.

Are there adults who can support my child at lunchtime?

We have a large group of lunchtime supervisory assistants who work very closely with the children. They will be available in the dining hall to help them initially with their meals then to provide a range of play opportunities outside

Where do Knightwood children transfer for Secondary.

This really depends where you live, however most of our catchment is in the Thornden catchment area so the largest proportion of our children transfer there after Year 6.

How do you support children with SEN?

Our teachers will work very closely with your child’s current childcare provider to make sure they have all the information they need before welcoming your child into school. We also have a team of experts in school who work very closely to assess the needs of all children and provide learning that is personal to your child.
