Welcome to Year 1
On Monday 13 March, Year 1 visited the gardens at Hilliers as part of our “Sowing and Growing” topic. We learnt about pollination and seed dispersal amongst lots of other things. We also made a smelly caterpillar using herbs from the herb garden and tried to find as many different colours as we could in the gardens using a colour palette. It was a great day and the sun shone throughout!
The Phonic Workshops have been going really well in Year 1. The children have enjoyed showing their parents their phonics learning and the parents have taken away some great ideas of what to do at home.
If you are unable to make the workshops, here is the slide show from the presentation and some photos from the mornings.
On Monday, as part of our Off We Go topic, year one tasted some Mexican food. We tried lots of different foods such as guacamole, salsa and tortilla wraps. We used our senses to describe how the foods looked, smelt and tasted. Some of us tried avocado for the first time!
On Wednesday Year 1 flew to Mexico as the start of our “Off We Go!” topic. The children made their own passports and were issued with tickets and boarding passes for the flight. Once they got to Knightwood Airport, they checked in and had their baggage weighed. After successfully passing through security, they waited in the departure lounge and had refreshments. Then it was time to board the flight! The usual safety demonstrations were completed and drinks and snacks were served. It was a long journey but finally we landed in Mexico and explored; finding out lots of new and exciting facts!
Thank you to everyone who came to the Curriculum Evening. If you were unable to attend, the hand outs will be sent home this week with your child and the powerpoint can be found on the class page.
